We would like to take this opportunity to clarify recent updates regarding our Diploma in Education and Training (DET) provision, following some understandable questions from prospective and current learners.
This is not the final time Bay Education Centre will be offering DET courses. Our commitment to delivering high-quality teacher training programmes remains unchanged.
What Is Being Discontinued
The only qualification being discontinued is the Focus Awards Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.
This decision forms part of a wider programme review to ensure our qualifications remain flexible, accessible, and aligned with the progression routes most relevant to our learners.
What We Will Continue to Offer
We will continue to offer the Diploma in Education and Training through two clearly defined routes, allowing learners to choose the pathway that best suits their circumstances and career goals.
Option 1: Blended Level 4 and Level 5 Route (With Placement)
This pathway is ideal for learners who want practical teaching experience alongside their qualification.
Qualifications included:
Focus Awards Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (120 credits)
VTCT Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (120 credits)
Total credits:
240 credits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF)
Key requirements:
A structured set of assignments across both levels
30 hours of teaching placement
5 observed teaching sessions
This option is particularly suitable for learners seeking hands-on experience and those progressing into teaching roles that value observed practice.
Option 2: Qualifi Level 5 Extended Diploma in Education and Training (Without Placement)
This route is designed for learners who require greater flexibility or are already working in education or training contexts where formal placement is not feasible.
Qualification included:
Qualifi Level 5 Extended Diploma in Education and Training
Credits:
Equivalent to 120 credits at Level 4 and 120 credits at Level 5, totalling 240 RQF credits
Key features:
No placement requirement
No teaching observations
12 written assignments
This option is well suited to experienced practitioners, international learners, or those balancing study with professional or personal commitments.
